Coaching vs Therapy

What is the different between coaching and counselling therapy?

In both situations you have a relationship with the person and this relationship non-judgmental and confident. In both situations, the clients come to the coach or the therapist because they wanting to change their life.

Both you have regular sessions but the difference is very big.

Therapy is a highly regulated industry what is require specific degrees and licences while the coaching is not a regulated industry and when it comes down to get anybody can be a coach but not all coach is equal.

The therapy is intended to look at the past how it is related to the present, they want to work through things and experiences from the past.

Where the coaching very little time looking anything in the past, rather than trying to understand of some cases how you got to act and what is the believing system what you pick up along the way, but not trying to fix anything or dig deeper in the past.

If you are focusing on life coaching than you want to go in the future and how do you get there.

Therapy thinks of the past, coaching thinks on the present and more on the future.

Another different is, that people going to therapy if after seeking some self -understanding or healing wounds or other experiences what they had.

If someone goes to a coach they may gain some self understanding but more specifically looking to go to the higher level in their life in one way or another. Also, they not looking so much the heal, they looking to learn and grow. It is most progressive, more stepping forward, like the other looking back.

In therapy often asking: why? Try to get to the bottom.

While coaching usually questioning: how to?

The counselling is higher on their expertise and the person who hires them depending on the information what they tell them what to do. It is not mean, that the coach doesn`t have good educations or high expertise. The different is more specific what is mean that the counselling therapy needs higher psychological expertise. Example if someone is a musician or an architecture he or she becomes a great coach, but if they wanting to be a counsellor they need to studying psychology or/and counselling therapy on a higher level.

Where is the coach most of the time expecting to change process, setting goals and keeping people accountable. There are a few big differences between the two experts.

The importance is, that in the coaching the client always seeing into the future and the clients always have their own power. The coach is to support the client and doesn`t give advice. The client will find the solution but with a coach`s guidance and empowering.
